DPD Gives Back!

The holidays are the perfect time to recognize the importance of giving back to the community. This is something that we take to heart and have tried to implement into our practice over the years. Read on for an overview of what we’ve been doing to make a difference in the lives of Central Oregonians in our own way!

Our goal is to improve the community’s access to good dental treatment. Why? Because we love the people, the natural beauty, and community in Bend. With its high desert lakes, mountain biking trails, and family-centered events, Bend has given so much to the Christensen and Swan families that they want to give back. We make every effort to take in OHP patients and are involved in the Healthy Kids program for children with no dental insurance. Dr. Steve and Dr. Stephanie are also fortunate to have privileges to take patients at St. Charles Hospital and Bend Surgery Center for the surgical treatments of young children.

It’s important to Dr. Steve that he serves patients with a lack of access to good health care. While in dental school, Dr. Steve found a passion in working with kids. He wanted to change people’s perceptions about how hard it is to get treatment. After opening his practice in May 2015, we’ve heard daily how much easier it is than they thought to receive dental care. Dr. Steve also sees patients referred to him by the Kemple Memorial Children’s Dental Clinic who are in need of restorative or extensive dental treatments. Each year, dental professionals working with the Kemple clinic donate over $300,000 of in-kind value each year to children for these much-needed treatments.

We give back to veterans and their families. From 1992 through 1996, Dr. Steve joined the 3rd battalion in the 9th marines. After his own experience, it has always been a priority for us to volunteer with disabled American vets and take veteran and military family insurance.

Outside of her practice, Dr. Stephanie has worked hundreds of hours at the Advantage Clinic, a group of dental professionals concerned with the lack of access to dental care in rural Oregon. She improves children’s lives as a staff member providing dental care to a very under-served population in Oregon. Her gentle touch characterizes her care for kids across Central Oregon.

Alongside these efforts, Dr. Steve, Dr. Stephanie, and Dr. Swan enjoy sponsoring some of their own patients in 4-H, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, dance team programs, and looking after dental staff at various local dental practices with prize drawings and gift baskets. DPD participates in other fundraisers to support local nonprofits, including the premiere sponsorship for the annual “Grin and Bear It” run benefiting Healthy Beginnings, as well as the Great Pumpkin Race 5K and Kids Fun Run. We are also proud to support KIDS Center, a child abuse intervention center, by collecting donation items for kids each month, along with volunteering in medical clinics for cleft palate.
